How the future will be: 1940's edition

When I started reading the article by Vannevar Bush I actually didn't initially read the by the editor section and didn't know that it was written in 1946. While reading it, without knowing that important information, I thought that the author was very strange in how much he thought technology would be such a helping hand to us. When people read about the almighty computer they usually see that the end of the world is coming or that we are becoming lazier due to increasing technology. I then went back to the beginning of the article and saw that it was written in the 40's. This helped to explain a lot and soon I saw that scientists during the time of the Great Wars were basically scared of their own inventions. They felt that their only purpose was for destruction and death. But Bush brings up a good point in the beginning of the article in that these people of great intellect need to come together and create.

Not all of Bush's predictions make complete sense, he basically thinks that everything will either be really small or that everyone can fix their machines. Towards the end of the article you see the early predictions of both hypermedia and multimedia. He begins to say that soon there will be too much data and it needs to be stored somewhere. But all of these predictions due detract from the one big issue "war". Since this article was made during the time directly after world war II it is understandable that he wasn't thinking of anymore wars. But war is what produces huge progressions in technology and sadly that's where all the technology that Bush predicted is going towards.
