A blog website that I spend a lot of time on is
Abduzeedo.com. The blog is from a Portuguese designer named Fabio Sasso who by a strange coincidence shares my last name. I doubt we're related however. Abduzeedo reports design trends, sources inspiration, interviews designers, and offers design tutorials with free source files. It's updated at least daily by a small group of contributors. Mostly I visit the blog to source inspiration. The inspiration comes in a variety of forms, art, illustration, architecture, photography, packaging, typography, logos, advertising, graffiti, fashion, websites and anything else the contributors come across that's relevant to design. I followed the website for this post from 9/27 to 10/3. There was 29 posts on Abduzeedo in just that week.
A regular feature on the site is the daily inspiration post. Here's some of the gems I found throughout the week:
The blog offers a user friendly way to share sourced inspiration with others. You can drag an image into a dashboard that pops up in a div layer that allows you to email the image, send it to facebook, twitter or IM. Unfortunately there was no way I could figure out how to screencap this to show you. Here's a Daily Inspiration page if you're interested in trying it for yourself.
The week I studied the blog, a student shared his
package design project in a blog post. His assignment was to redesign the Doritos packaging. Inspired by origami, paper tessellation and referencing Mexican totem poles here's what he came up with:
Another post was dedicated to design book recommendations. Some recommended books included, "How To Be a Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul" - a book that offers career guidance to get the most out of being a designer, "The Art of Looking Sideways" - a book that offers a wide range of inspiration, and a book I own called "Creative Advertising: Ideas and Techniques from the World's Best Campaigns" which explores ways to come up with ideas using successful ad campaigns as case studies.
Abduzeedo, in my humble opinion, is an outstanding design focused blog. It's apparent by the volume and quality of the posts that the people behind it are passionate about design and happy to share what they find and create.
